George Papadopoulos filed papers with the Federal Election Commission Tuesday night indicating he planned to run for Rep. Katie Hill’s open Congressional seat.

Papadopoulos is known for his role in the 2016 Russia probe, as he was jailed for 12 days for lying to the FBI over contacts he had with Russians during his time working for President Trump’s campaign.

‘Announcement soon on my interest in Katie Hill’s soon to be vacant seat in the 25th district!’ Papadopoulos tweeted Tuesday night. His wife Simona also tweeted a photograph of her husband giving a speech at a California Republican’s fundraiser.

George Papadopoulos signaled that he’ll jump in the race to replace Rep. Katie Hill, a California Democrat who resigned Sunday due to a bubbling sex scandal

Hill, a freshman Democrat from California, resigned Sunday after DailyMail.com reported that she was part of a ‘throuple’ with her now-estranged husband and a female campaign aide.

A Congressional ethics probe had been launched into Hill over allegations that she was having an affair with a male aide, who worked for the California congresswoman’s Capitol Hill office – an ethics no-no.

Hill is openly bisexual.

The 32-year-old Hill announced her resignation over Twitter and then via video.

‘It is with a broken heart that today I announce my resignation from Congress,’ she wrote. ‘This is the hardest thing I have ever had to do, but I believe it is the best thing for my constituents, my community and our country.’

Hill blamed her ‘abusive’ husband for leaking nude pictures of her to GOP political operatives.

Democrats supportive of Hill called foul that the congresswoman, considered one of the leaders of her large freshman class, essentially resigned over revenge porn.

In December, the Chicago-born Papadopoulos told Politico that he was interested in running for Congress in California.

He and his wife had relocated to Los Angeles so she could pursue acting and modeling.

On Sunday, the day Hill said her goodbye, Papadopoulos hinted he would pursue her seat.

‘I’m smelling blood in the water now that Katie Hill has resigned,’ he wrote. ‘California’s 25th congressional district is wide open for the taking. Someone has to step up. I love my state too much to see it run down by candidates like Hill.’

‘All talk, no action, and a bunch of sell outs,’ he added.
