Paralyzed dog receives wheelchair after being abandoned

  • The Los Angeles area dog was at the vet for surgery on a slipped disc
  • He was abandoned after his owners learned he wouldn’t walk again
  • The pup was fitted with a new wheelchair by a local animal support group
  • Tiger, despite his paralysis, is in good health and ready for a permanent home

A seven-year-old dog from the Los Angeles area has had some kind humans fit him with a customized wheelchair to compensate for his paralyzed back legs – but he’s not out of the woods just yet.

The Fuzzy Pet Foundation of Santa Monica, California said that the dog, named ‘Tiger’, was abandoned by his original owners at vet’s office after going in for surgery on a slipped disc and learning he wouldn’t walk again, KTLA reported.

Now the brave pup is looking for a permanent home, and there’s a GoFundMe to help him with his recovery.

Tiger, the seven-year-old Corgi-Chihuahua mix, needs a new home after being abandoned at the vet  after his owners learned that surgery had rendered him unable to walk

According to the GoFundMe page, Tiger’s owners ‘weren’t happy that Tiger was not able to urinate/defecate on his own.

‘And they claimed they had no time to deal with a handicapped dog, especially with a newborn on the way.’

The vet contacted the Fuzzy Pet Foundation to help Tiger.

According to the organization, Tiger is in good health aside from some mild incontinence and the issues with his legs, and he’s ready to be adopted into a permanent home.

‘It may take us a while to find a forever home for a special-needs dog like Tiger,’ Sheila Choi, The Fuzzy Pet Foundation’s founder and CEO, said in a statement.

‘He may or may not ever walk again, but he appears so comfortable and happy in his new wheelchair. We aren’t giving up on him.’

The GoFundMe, which has raised $805 of its $3,500 goal will pay for his wheelchair, physical therapy and electroacupuncture treatments.
