Paramedics declare baby doll dead after falling for sick hoax in New York

Paramedics declare ‘extremely realistic’ baby doll ‘dead’ after falling for sick hoax where toy was set up to look like decomposing infant and dumped in front of a New York home

  • Paramedics were tricked into declaring a baby doll to be ‘dead’ on Tuesday
  • An ‘extremely realistic’ toy that was colored in blue and purple marker in an apparent effort to look like it was decomposing was found in Queens at 7.50am
  • The doll was initially declared to be a dead three-month-old child
  • It was found face down in a tee shirt and diaper, with one arm tucked under it
  • After authorities lifted its shirt, they realized it was prop and they’d been fooled
  • After it was lifted from grass the shirt was revealed to read ‘the crawling dead’

Officials in New York City were fooled into thinking a three-month-old baby had been found dead after coming across an ‘extremely realistic’ looking doll.

The doll was found face-down in front of a home across the street from Crocheron Park in Bayside, Queens, authorities said.

The doll, which was ‘created to look like it was decomposing,’ was costumed in a diaper and tee shirt that read ‘the crawling dead’ on the front, where it was initially hidden from view.

Police initially taped off the area, considering it a full-blown crime scene, before realizing they had been duped, 1010Wins reported.

Police responded to the scene after a runner stumbled upon the toy, and apparently thought it was a human child, at around 7.40am.

Someone called 911 and the doll was then found next to a brick retainer wall attached to a fence in front of a home near 215th Street and 35th Avenue, the New York Post reported.

Paramedics initially declared the toy to be a dead baby when it was found in the grassy area.

‘The doll was created to look like it was decomposing,’ a source said.

The prop appeared to have purple and bluish skin, as though it had been rotting for some time.

A photo showed the doll face-down in the grass with one purple arm tucked under its body.

Authorities said once they lifted the shirt, they realized it was not an actual human, and could see that the tee shirt read, ‘the crawling dead.’

Police are now working to determine whether the 911 caller was the person who left the doll in front of the home.

If so, officials said the caller could be charged with filing a false report.
