Parents react to the new cleaning queen Marie Konda had given up on tidying after having three kids

Parents are reeling after the news famous organisation guru Marie Kondo has ‘given up’ on keeping her home tidy after having three kids. 

The Japanese TV star and author has been known as the queen of decluttering since her hit Netflix program aired in 2019 but now she’s revealed her ‘home is messy’ in a recent interview.

As the news spread across social media, Australian mums and dads have joked they feel ‘validated’ by the update saying ‘there’s more to life than tidying’ especially with young kids. 

At an event to promote her newest book, Marie said after giving birth to her third child in 2021, she’s realised keeping a tidy home is much easier said than done and wants to prioritise spending time with her family. 

‘Up until now, I was a professional tidier, so I did my best to keep my home tidy at all times,’ she said at the event according to the Washington Post. 

‘I have kind of given up on that in a good way for me. Now I realise what is important to me is enjoying spending time with my children at home.’

Marie’s best-known decluttering tip was to get rid of things in the home that don’t ‘spark joy’, a famous phrase she coined in her first book. 

Parents online found the news the tidying pro ‘gave up’ on keeping an immaculate house all the time ‘relatable’ while others said they always saw it coming. 

‘She had three kids and realised trying to keep a house tidy is like trying to shovel snow in a snow storm,’ one mum said.

‘There is more to life than tidying. No one on their death bed ever wished they kept their house more organised. Good on her.’

‘She’s one of us now,’ another wrote while a third simply said: ‘FINALLY’. 

‘You know what doesn’t bring me joy? Marie Kondo telling me to throw stuff away,’ commented a fourth. 

More parents were discussing Marie’s revelation in a Reddit thread with one saying: ‘You have no idea how validating I find this news’. 

Some weren’t fans of the author and TV star however others were happy she had adopted a more relaxed attitude to decluttering

‘So two kids is the max before even the tidiest of us gives up?? Lol sounds about right!’ a second laughed.  

‘I have a three-foot tornado for a toddler, a high energy puppy, and I’m currently pregnant. Tidying up does not spark joy,’ joked a third.   

Another mum speculated: ‘Don’t kid yourself. You just that woman’s home is still immaculate.’

‘Dear God. They broke Kondo. What hope is there for the rest of us??’ someone asked.
