Paris Games: Karl Stefanovic slams France again as he has a very controversial reaction to Olympics star’s marriage proposal

Today host Karl Stefanovic has slammed the French once again as he stunned his colleague Sara Abo by blowing up over an Olympics star who proposed to her boyfriend during the Paris Games.

On Tuesday, Stefanovic branded French people ‘rude, pompous and weird sexually’ after spending time in the capital while covering the world’s biggest sporting event.

And he was at it again on Friday morning as he reacted to vision of French steeplechase star Alice Finot’s heartwarming proposal after she finished fourth in her race at the Stade de France.

Abo introduced vision of the romantic moment by saying, ‘Paris, the city of love, and love was all around today.

‘Look at this beautiful proposal … she proposed to him! Yes, Karl, it’s a modern woman, I’m here for it, I love it.’

Stefanovic was not impressed, however, and light-heartedly replied, ‘What’s wrong with him? Why didn’t he do it first? I don’t understand.

‘Do you think that’s cool?’

When Abo said she thought the act was cool and modern, Stefanovic replied, ‘It’s French … I don’t want to talk about it.’

It followed his earlier remarks on the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Monday, where he didn’t hold back when he shared his observations about the Games host nation.

‘The French are weirdos. The French are complete weirdos. We all know that,’ he said.

‘They’re kind of a weird nation, sexually.’

When host Jackie Henderson asked if he’d tried speaking French with the locals while covering the Olympics, the Nine star gave a curt reply.

‘Do you know what? I’ve stopped trying. I don’t really like them that much,’ Stefanovic said.

‘They’re so rude. Oh, they’re really up themselves… they’re pompous. They do a good burger though. I do like the burgers and stuff over here.’

Finot’s proposal joined a long list of moving moments in Paris.

Cheered on by the home fans inside the cauldron in Paris, Finot hugged her partner – fellow athlete Bruno Martínez Bargiela – before getting down on one knee.

The Olympian proposed with an pin instead of a ring, much to the surprise of Bargiela, and Finot later explained that she had been prompted by a fortunate piece of numerology.

‘I told myself that if I ran under nine minutes, knowing that nine is my lucky number and that we’ve been together for nine years, then I would propose,’ Finot said in the mixed zone after her race.

‘I don’t like doing things like everyone else. Since he hadn’t done it yet, I told myself that maybe it was up to me to do it.

‘So, I gave a pin that I ran with to my boyfriend. On it, it says: Love is in Paris.

‘He’s the one who always gives me strength and if I managed to get under nine minutes, that meant a lot.’

Finot confirmed that ‘he said yes’ to her proposal, and was similarly delighted with her performance on the track.

‘I really had a blast, I managed to express myself,’ the Frenchwoman added.

‘It was just a tiny bit (that was) missing to get a medal, I’m sorry. But I don’t regret anything.’
