Parliament House evacuated over hazardous materials scare

Parliament House in Darwin has been evacuated over fears of a hazardous contamination.

The Northern Territory Police Fire and Emergency Services said people in the building were evacuated as a precautionary measure.

‘Initial information indicates there was a strong smell of chlorine coming from an unknown location,’ it said in a media alert at 2.40pm local time.

Several people had experienced eye discomfort however no injuries had yet been reported. 

WorkSafe NT was notified.
