Mitchell Moses fined for shocking act in Eels defeat to the Sea Eagles…as NRL great pinpoints huge problem with Parramatta’s season so far: ‘That should not happen’

  • Mitchell Moses fined $750 for pulling Kelma Tuilagi’s hair in loss to Manly
  • Eels winger Maika Sivo was fined for the same offence by the NRL

Parramatta star Mitchell Moses has been fined $750 for pulling Kelma Tuilagi’s hair in the Eels’ 34-30 loss against Manly on Thursday night.

The halfback appeared on the NRL’s charge sheet for contrary conduct on Friday along with teammate Maika Sivo, who was found guilty of the same offence after pulling the locks of winger Christian Tuipulotu.

Sivo was also fined $750, but he and Moses will be available to play on Thursday night when the Eels welcome Penrith in a rematch of last year’s Grand Final.

‘Good on the match review committee,’ Manly chief executive Tony Mestrov told News Corp on Sunday.

‘This sort of stuff might have happened 30 years ago but it doesn’t belong anymore.’

It’s been a dismal start of the season for Parramatta, who have lost three games in a row and already face an uphill battle to make the finals.

Bad as the Eels performances have been, NRL great Matty Johns suggested Brad Arthur’s men have been dealt a difficult hand to play by the draw.

Manly came off a bye on Thursday night and the same will apply to Penrith and the Roosters, Parramatta’s next two opponents.

‘[The schedule] is a complete oversight as far as the draw is concerned,’ Johns said on The Late Show with Matty Johns.

‘That should not happen’.

Moses, who missed two crucial conversions in the loss to the Sea Eagles on Thursday, has dominated the off-season discourse due to the impasse between him and the club over a new deal.

The Eels have reportedly offered a four-year contract extension, but Moses’ management is looking for a longer deal.

Earlier this month, the halfback snapped back at reporters suggesting the contract negotiations had taken his focus away from the game.

‘These things take time,’ he said.

‘People don’t know about the numbers that are involved. I think people are just guessing. Journalists are guessing and reporters are guessing what the numbers are- they’ve got no idea.

‘I didn’t put a deadline on it. I would’ve liked it to happen then, but it wasn’t like I said it has to be done. I’ve worried about my footy, and Parramatta have been great with that.’
