Patrick Beverley confirms report he’s close to signing with the Chicago Bulls

Veteran point guard Patrick Beverley has given the seal of approval to a report that he’s set to sign with the Chicago Bulls.

The free agent is on the verge of returning to his native Chicago for the remainder of the season, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski reported Monday night.

Beverley was dealt to the Orlando Magic as part of a four-team trade that saw Mo Bamba head to the Los Angeles Lakers in exchange. But Orlando waived him, placing him into free agency. 

Now the 11-year veteran is set for the Bulls as he quoted Wojnarowski’s post breaking the news on Twitter, saying ‘yea’ alongside a red love heart.

He is averaging 6.4 points, 3.1 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game with LA this season.

Throughout his career Beverley has never been a big scorer averaging only 8.7 points, 3.4 assists, and 4.2 rebounds. 

He has still made his mark in the league as one of the league’s best defenders after earning three ALL-NBA defensive team honors on three separate occasions. 

In 2016-17, he was first-team All-Defense while also winning the league’s Hustle Award. 

Beverley’s ability to make impactful plays on both sides of the ball has led to his teams making the playoffs in nine of his first 10 NBA seasons. 

This run included helping the Minnesota Timberwolves earn a playoff spot in 2022 for just the second time in 18 years.

Chicago is very much in need of a backup point guard. The Bulls have started 2021 second-round pick Ayo Dosunmu in 49 of 57 games and are coming to the realization that starting point guard Lonzo Ball may miss the remainder of the season as he continues to recover from knee surgery.

Chicago is currently 26-33 and in 11th place in the Eastern Conference, one spot outside of the play-in tournament. They are two games behind the Toronto Raptors.

Clearly excited to be returning home Beverley also quoted tweets posted from his podcast Pat Bev Pod’s official Twitter, saying ‘official’ with a heart. He also shared one from SportsCenter that referenced an old tweet from 2012 where he said he wanted to play for the Bulls by writing ‘Kid from Chicago’ with two hearts. 

Just last week Beverley responded to a fan on Twitter who called for him to return home and play for the Bulls, saying: ‘Playing at the CRIB is def a vibe #chicagokid’, with a heart.
