Patrick Mahomes is NOT at Tom Brady’s level yet, insists his father – as the Chiefs quarterback bids for his third Super Bowl at age 28 next weekend: ‘He is on the right trajectory’

Despite being a win away from his third Super Bowl title at the age of 28, Patrick Mahomes’ father, Pat, thinks it is too early to consider him the greatest quarterback of all time. 

Although he refuses to crown his junior as the GOAT at this point, he believes that the Chiefs superstar is on the right path towards achieving such status. 

‘That’s still to be determined,’ Pat said. ‘He still has a ways to go. I have mad respect for Tom Brady and grew up as a Joe Montana fan. 

‘[Patrick] is on the right trajectory, but right now, I would still say those guys are better.’

The trajectory would certainly be correct if Mahomes were to lead the Chiefs past the San Francisco 49ers on February 11 for their second straight title. That would put him ahead of Montana and level him with Brady in titles at 28 years old.

Mahomes has a chance to win his third title at the age of 28, placing him over Montana’s two 

Montana won his second Lombardi Trophy when he was 28. On the other hand, Brady had three rings at that age. 

In terms of individual success, Mahomes had won the prestigious award for the second time by the 2022 season. Both Brady and Montana did not win the award until their 30s, despite being heavily considered for it beforehand. 

Mahomes may soon catch up to Montana’s four career titles but has more chasing to do with Brady’s seven.

Brady’s long-term excellence saw him win five Super Bowl MVPs, make two All-Decade teams and hold the NFL’s all-time records for passing yards and passing touchdowns among many accolades. 

Nevertheless, Mahomes’ resume is undeniably impressive with two Super Bowl MVPs, an Offensive Player of the Year award and six Pro-Bowl selections in seven seasons in the NFL. 

However, his father insists that there’s still work to be done. And if the Chiefs win on February 11 and continue to build their dynasty, he will surely edge closer to being in consideration for the greatest in his position.
