Carson Daly’s mother has died.
The ‘Today’ show correspondent and ‘The Voice’ host announced the death of Pattie Daly Caruso in a statement read by his ‘Today’ colleague Matt Lauer on the NBC program Monday.
The 73-year-old breast cancer survivor died Sunday at her home in Palm Springs, California, after suffering an early morning heart attack, a family spokesman told the Desert Sun.

‘We’re sorry to start this hour with some sad news. Our thoughts and our prayers are going out to Carson and his family over the sudden passing of his mom, Pattie,’ Savannah Guthrie said.
‘We spoke to him and he wanted to share this message with all of you,’ Matt Lauer added.
The statement reads: ‘It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, wife, grandmother, Pattie Daly Caruso. She passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 17th, 2017.
‘Kiki, as she was known to her grandchildren and many others, touched so many lives with her kindness, her giant spirit, and her love of life. She will be terribly missed by her family and the world, but her spark will shine for eternity.’
Like her son, Pattie was a television personality in her home state of California. She hosted Valley Views for 25 years, interviewing celebrities like Donald Trump and Arnold Palmer. She’s pictured above with her son on the Today show in 2013

After reading the statement, Lauer said: ‘We want to just say, Carson, we are so sorry. Our thoughts are with you and your family.’
‘What a devoted and loving son Carson is,’ Guthrie chimed in. ‘And Pattie was just a force.’
On the Today show in 2013, Daly spoke about his mother being his number one inspiration.
‘I think having a strong parent has just been such an inspiration because it’s a constant reminder for me to find my own pillar of strength and to be that for my own growing family,’ he said at the time.
‘Some people will say, it’s not the cross — it’s how you bear,’ Carson said. ‘Her life is a constant example for me of how to bear that cross.’
Caruso was a well-known personality on local TV in California, where she hosted her talk show ‘Valley Views’ for 25 years. It was the longest running television show in the Coachella Valley.
On the show, Caruso interviewed celebrities including Donald Trump and Arnold Palmer.
She appeared with her son at times on the red carpet and on ‘The Voice.’
In addition to her son, she is survived by her second husband Richard Caruso, her daughter Quinn and five grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Jim Daly.
This is the second death in the Today show family in as many weeks. Last week, Kathie Lee Gifford’s mother, Joan Epstein, died at the age of 87.
