Good gravy! Paul Kelly and his legions of loyal fans have sent Twitter into a meltdown on Thursday, their National ‘Gravy Day’ skyrocketing to the top of trends lists

Based on lyrics from the fourteen-time ARIA winning artist’s classic ‘How To Make Gravy,’ fans have claimed the 21st of December as their own special day.

In particular, the line ‘Hello Dan, it’s Joe here, I hope you’re keeping well, it’s the 21st of December,’ from the 1996 track inspired loyalists to create the holiday.

Elsewhere in the song, Paul literally sings his recipe: ‘Just add flour, salt, a little red wine and don’t forget a dollop of tomato sauce for sweetness and that extra tang.’

In response, images of Gravox packets sitting out on porches, and even full serving jars of thick brown homemade gravy have flooded the social media platform.

Alongside their savoury offerings, fans wrote: ‘#putyourgravyout National Gravy Day.’

‘The beauty of #gravyday means you can sing Who’s Gonna Make The Gravy without lying to yourself,’ another wrote.

One joked: ‘If you play How To Make Gravy by Paul Kelly at exactly 11:58:27 on New Years Eve you are too late’Gravy Day was 10 days ago and you have failed. #gravyday’

The 1996 track was originally released as the title track of an EP, but quickly gained awards recognition, nominated ‘Song Of The Year’ at the ARIAs the next year.
