A pedestrian in her 40s died after a driver in her 80s ploughed into the front of a Specsavers store. 

The tragic accident, in which the driver sustained just minor injuries, took place in Boston, Lincolnshire at around 1.30 pm today.  

A witness told Lincolnshire Live they had seen a car crash into the window of Specsavers ‘trapping somebody underneath.’

An air ambulance landed in the nearby Central Park in response to the incident.

Lincolnshire police confirmed the tragic news of the woman’s death, adding that the grey Citroen driver had been hospitalised. 

A spokesman from the East Midlands Ambulance Service said: ‘We received a call at 1.37pm on 1 July to Wide Bargate in Boston.

A witness said they had seen a car crash into the window of Specsavers ‘trapping somebody underneath’

‘The caller reported there had been a road traffic collision.

‘We sent two crewed ambulances and a LIVES community first responder.’

It is thought two fire engines also attended the scene in Boston’s Wide Bargate area. 

Police said that investigations are continuing.
