Pennsylvania man robs a bank wearing a purple dress

  • The man entered a credit union in State College, Pennsylvania on Tuesday
  • Witnesses say he put a bag on the counter with a note demanding cash and claiming he was armed
  • Police are still looking for the suspect who is shown in surveillance video wearing women’s clothing
  • The small town had two other bomb threats on the same day

The FBI and Pennsylvania state police are searching for a ‘tall’ man who robbed a bank while wearing a purple dress, a mask and an ivory scarf.

Witnesses said the man entered the SPE Federal Credit Union in State College at 3.54pm on Tuesday and placed a bag on the counter with a note saying he had a bomb and a gun and demanding cash.

After staff members gave him cash, the man fled on foot, leaving the bag he claimed had a bomb at the scene. The amount of money stolen has not been released.

A bomb response team and tactical response unit examined the scene and determined there was no threat.

Police posted a picture from the bank’s surveillance cameras on the department’s Facebook page. Local departments, state police and the FBI are searching the area for a suspect.

Bank employees said the suspect was a man about six feet tall.

Police said because of the threats made by the suspect, he should be considered armed and dangerous.

A bomb threat also was received at a nearby Walmart prior to the robbery on Tuesday afternoon.

Walmart was evacuated and police spent more than four hours searching the building with bomb sniffing dogs.

Penn State Police also reported at about 7.50pm that a ‘credible bomb threat’ had been received at the Penn State University Research West building.

Research West was declared safe after a suspicious device found by police was determined to be of no danger.

Police do not know if Tuesday bomb threats at a Walmart and Penn State Research West in the area are linked to the heist.
