People are only just realizing Alan Cumming was a Bond villain… and they are now all saying his catchphrase

Alan Cumming has revealed that people still go wild for his turn in the James Bond film GoldenEye.

The Scottish actor, 69, starred opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 1995 spy movie, which marked as Pierce’s Bond debut following Timothy Dalton.

In the blockbuster, Alan played Boris Grishenko, a computer programmer affiliated with the crime syndicate Janus, which Bond had been tasked with shutting down.

The movie sees 007 fight to prevent a rogue ex-MI6 agent (played by Sean Bean), 006, from using a satellite weapon against London to cause a global financial meltdown.

In a new interview, Alan has recalled that fans still ‘freak out’ about his appearance in the film despite it nearly being 30 years old.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: ‘It was such a long time ago, but people still freak out about it.

‘Maybe it has to do with the [GoldenEye] video game, which is iconic.

‘People always ask me to say, “I’m invincible” — still shout at me in the street and everything.

‘It’s sort of grown slowly and now it’s become this sort of catchphrase, I guess. It’s great to have a catchphrase. I love a catchphrase.’

GoldenEye also starred Robbie Coltrane as a Russian gangster, Minnie Driver as a mistress, and Famke Janssen as a Georgian fighter pilot.

Judi Dench also starred as M and made history as the first woman to portray the character, replacing Robert Brown.

In 2021, Alan opened up about ‘feeling suicidal’ the day he auditioned for GoldenEye, admitting that it was ‘one of the worst days of my life.’

Speaking on CBS, he said: ‘I felt really, really, really low. I just now think, “Oh you poor little thing, you could’ve said I am feeling suicidal today.”‘

He also added that ‘Hollywood saved him’ while discussing his new memoir Baggage: Tales from a Fully Packed Life.

He is also the host of the reality television games show The Traitors, which is set to return for season three on Peacock on January 9.

During an appearance on the Today show on Tuesday, Alan said of helming the series: ‘I have such a laugh doing it.

‘I really, really enjoy it. It’s such a fun thing to have happened to my life and I’m just really loving it.’
