A group of people hailed as ‘extremely beautiful’ has opened up very candidly about the perks they get to enjoy – and the setbacks they must cope with – as a result of their good looks.
Among the beautiful bunch are Billie, 28, who asked to use a nickname when speaking to Vice, Luca, 21, Peter, 37, Nina, 23, and Emil, 32.
All of them recounted tales of privilege—including free drinks, ‘huge’ tips, and even, in Nina’s case, the ability to land all of her jobs so far without a ‘proper’ job interview, since employers usually offer her the position she’s after following an ‘informal chat’.
Perks: Beautiful people have opened up about the privileges their good looks earn them. Among them, Nina (pictured) said she has scored all her jobs without proper interviews
It’s not all privileges: Emil , who has mastered the art of playing up his boyish smile with a three-day stubble, says he has faced prejudice because of his good looks
Advantages: Nina , who enjoys a gorgeous mane of brown hair and a plump pout, admitted that beauty can be ‘very useful’, and used her professional life as an illustration
Upon being told she is ‘absolutely gorgeous’, Billie, a doe-eyed beauty with delicate facial features, replied, ‘Yes, I know’, then went on to point out there is still ‘a lot’ she would like to change about herself.
But she immediately acknowledged the ‘advantages’ of her beauty, telling the website: ‘I work in hospitality and I often get huge tips, or guys offering to buy me drinks.’
Luca, meanwhile, revealed that a ‘nice perk’ is getting sent free products and clothes, which the stunning redhead in turn features on her Instagram account.
As for Nina, who enjoys a gorgeous mane of brown hair and a plump pout, admitted that beauty can be ‘very useful’, and used her professional life as an illustration.
‘I’ve never had a proper job interview, for example. I usually just have an informal chat and then get offered the job,’ she said, before listing another perk.
‘I also notice that it’s easier for me to get away with s**t than it is for others. When I misbehave in a club—standing on the bar, pouring my own beer from the tap—I never get thrown out. And people are always really nice to me—I don’t have to work that hard to make friends.’
Tricks: Peter, whose photos give off a darkly handsome vibe, admitted to taking advantage of his own beauty, saying he can be ‘quite charming’ if the circumstances call for it
Hard: Billie sometimes get the impression that her friends get jealous of the attention she gets, and thus feels ‘guilty’ when mean approach her but ignore the rest of her group
Peter, whose photos give off a darkly handsome vibe, admitted to taking advantage of his own beauty, saying he can be ‘quite charming’ if the circumstances call for it.
‘A while back, for example, a friend of mine was nominated for GQ’s Man of the Year Award in the Netherlands.
‘He didn’t win, so to make up for that disappointment, he and I used our looks and charm to convince the girl in charge of the goodie bags to give us about a dozen of those bags to take home,’ Peter said.
Being beautiful, though, is both a blessing and a curse, if the group is to be trusted.
Billie, for instance, sometimes get the impression that her friends get jealous of the attention she gets, and thus feels ‘guilty’ when mean approach her but ignore the rest of her group.
She has also noticed that men always chat her up to discuss her beauty, when she would prefer to be asked about her personal interests.
Curse: Luca, meanwhile, explained that people often stare at her, making her feel ‘extremely uncomfortable’, and have a tendency to assume she is ‘really dumb’
Gifts: The stunning redhead revealed that a ‘nice perk’ is getting sent free products and cloths, which she in turn features on her Instagram account
‘It’s always the same—when you’re good-looking you’re only judged on your appearance. People sometimes forget we have a personality lurking underneath,’ Billie said.
Luca, meanwhile, explained that people often stare at her, making her feel ‘extremely uncomfortable’, and have a tendency to assume she is ‘really dumb’.
As for Emil, who has mastered the art of playing up his boyish smile with a three-day stubble, he has faced prejudice too because of his good looks.
‘Yes, studies have proven that physically beautiful people are better liked. But on the other hand, people often assume I’m arrogant,’ they said. ‘They’ll tell me they can’t figure me out because I’m rather socially awkward, and they think that with the way I look, I should be more confident.’
Nina insisted she doesn’t, in fact, think she is ‘crazy gorgeous’, and while she modeled for a while, she ended up feeling ‘quite uncomfortable’ in the industry because it is ‘so superficial’.
‘Being good-looking doesn’t only have benefits, you know,’ she added, before listing the same plight as Emil. ‘People are often intimidated by you, or they assume you’re arrogant.’
