Stress eaters have admitted they are on their way to gaining the ‘quarantine 15’ because they can’t stop munching on the snacks and treats they have stockpiled in their homes. 

People are taking to Twitter to share that they are flying through their grocery store rations in a matter of days and will likely start piling on the pounds as they ride out the coronavirus pandemic at home.   

Many compared it to the ‘freshman 15’ that students often gain during their first year of college, while others predicted that they are destined to put on the ‘COVID 19.’

‘Quarantine 15 is the new freshman 15,’ Ashley Fern tweeted on Sunday, while Emily Minor agreed: ‘Gaining the COVID 19 is real.’ 

There were plenty of Twitter users who shared GIFS and memes of people shoving their faces with food to explain what quarantine has been like for them. 

‘Me in my room eating all my quarantine snacks that should last a month in 2 days,’ one person wrote while sharing a clip of someone enjoying a bag of Takis.  

Another shared four different photos of Keanu Reeves, writing: ‘Me eating all of my quarantine groceries on the first day.’ 

‘Resisting the urge to eat every 15 minutes is remarkably difficult while under quarantine,’ Kevin Heaney admitted.

And Moiz Ali asked: ‘Is anyone else eating 3 days worth of food in 1 day during the quarantine? If not, me neither.’ 

Some noted that they can’t even work off the calories they’re consuming because gyms across the country are closed to prevent the spread of the virus. 

One person posted a video of a man rocking himself back and forth, writing: ‘LA Fitness is closed for the rest of the month and I’m stuck at home eating all my quarantine food.’ 

‘Who else is on course for gaining the Covid 19? I miss the gym. Home workouts are not my jam,’ someone else tweeted. 

There are even celebrities who say they’ve been doing nothing but eating and lying around while in lockdown at home. 

On Monday, actor Jason O’Mara tweeted: ‘Day 4 of self quarantine. Eaten my weight in snacks and watched almost everything good on Netflix. At this rate by Thursday I’ll be watching Love Is Blind and eating dried dog food #Covid_19.’ 

While some are turning to food to stave off boredom, others have admitted that they can’t stop stress eating while home.

Of course, putting on a few pounds is a lot better than the alternative. 

The total number of confirmed cases of coronavirus worldwide has surpassed 200,000 while the death toll has topped 8,000, according to Johns Hopkins University.   

The virus also has the economy is also in a free-fall, and experts believe a global recession has already started. 

Major companies have begun laying off employees worldwide and a fifth of U.S. workers say that they have already lost wages due to the crisis.  

People who are struggling with emotional eating should make conscious choices about their eating and avoid triggers when possible.    

‘Choose deliberately what you will eat and when,’ Psychology Today advised. ‘Challenge yourself to cope with that negative emotions that you may be experiencing away from food. 

‘Ask yourself questions like: Will I feel better after eating this? Is this something I am going to regret eating or do I actively choose to eat this? What do I need to change about my life today to help myself not experience unwanted emotional eating episodes?’
