Perrie Edwards forgives ex-fiancé Zayn Malik for dumping her over text because she has found ‘healthy love’ with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain

Perrie Edwards has forgiven her ex-fiancé Zayn Malik for dumping her over text because she has now found ‘healthy love’ with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

Former Little Mix star Perrie, 31, was in a relationship with former One Direction star Zayn, also 31, from 2011 till 2015.

Perrie and Zayn announced their engagement in August 2013, both aged 20, and announced their split two years later to the month.

Speaking on US streaming platform SiriusXM, Perrie admitted the break-up had shaken her to her core and she confessed that she thought: ‘Not sure I want to try that again.’

However, without referring to Zayn by name, Perrie told the Mirror she holds no grudges, saying: ‘…It’s not that anyone’s to blame in the situation, so to speak, but when you are young, you do just think that idea of love is normal and it’s not. And you don’t realise that until you step away from it and then you experience something different.’

Speaking about her relationship with Alex, 30, Perrie said: ‘It’s safety, it’s calm. It’s being able to approach that person with anything and know that they’ll support you. They’ve always got your back.

‘It’s a healthy love and I can’t explain it. It just feels nice.’

Both Perrie’s and Zayn’s bands formed on The X Factor, but on series eight and seven respectively.

Just a few months after their split, Zayn had began what would be a six-year on-again, off-again relationship with American model Gigi Hadid, with whom Zayn shares his only child, Khai, three.

In June, Perrie’s fans declared her second single, in which she talks about no longer caring about an ex, ‘mindblowing’.

Perrie showed off her vocals in new song Tears, the follow-up to her April debut Don’t Forget About Us, imploring an old lover to remember the good times.

Her debut solo single was number one for two weeks on the Big Top 40 chart and peaked inside the top 10 of the Official Charts.

Where Don’t Forget About Us was an Ed Sheeran pop ballad with country music influence, Tears is smooth soul with an ’80s vibe.

Speaking about her current relationship with footballer Alex, 30, Perrie said: 'It¿s safety, it¿s calm ... They¿ve always got your back. 'It¿s a healthy love and I can¿t explain it. It just feels nice'

It comes after Perrie’s ex-bandmate Jade became the final member of Little Mix to go solo when Angel Of My Dreams dropped on July 19.

Little Mix, which formed in 2011 with Perrie, Jade, Leigh-Anne Pinnock, and Jesy Nelson, disbanded in 2022, following the departure of Jesy in 2020.

Angel Of My Dreams follows Jesy’s Boyz in 2021, featuring Nicki Minaj, Leigh-Anne’s Don’t Say Love in 2023, and Forget About Us in April.

The song is now the second-highest performing solo single from the women, peaking at number 7 as of July 28.
