Perth family of electrocuted girl given new car by charity No Limits

The family of a young Perth girl who was electrocuted last week have been given a generous gift by strangers as they continue to hope for a miracle recovery.

Denishar Woods, 11, was declared brain dead after suffering a severe electric shock from a garden tap at her family’s Beldon property on Saturday night.

On Saturday her life support was turned off but against all odds, she has continued to breathe on her own without a respirator, leaving her family praying for a miracle recovery.

Denishar’s mother Lacey Harrison will now be able to drive her whole family to the hospital after charity group No Limits gifted her a brand new car.

‘The whole team of girls that work with me at No Limits Perth, we all felt the same, we all felt we would do whatever we could to try and help,’ charity Chairperson Janine Wood told 9 News.

‘Denishar’s had a real steady night. She’s still breathing on her own, which is a miracle,’ her mother said after she had been taken off life support.

‘I think she’s beat the odds form the doctors, knowing she hasn’t had to go back on life support.’

Denishar had been in an induced coma in Princess Margaret Hospital since last Saturday evening, when her heart stopped after about 230 volts ran through her body.

Anything over 50 volts is dangers for the human body and the shock to her body was so server her heart stopped and her organs begun to heat up.

Her mother ran to help but was also shocked before a neighbor heard them screaming and rushed to the home to find them both covered in water.

Ms Harrison told reporters outside Princess Margaret Hospital on Friday that if her daughter survived being taken off life support, she would be in a vegetative state.

The mother-of-seven also said doctors believed she would not survive.

“She probably won’t come back to me as the little girl I know, but as a family, we believe she’s in there fighting,” Ms Harrison told journalists on Saturday.

“She probably will never wake … but while she’s breathing on her own, there’s a fight in there.”

Denishar’s official condition status has changed from critical but stable to serious but stable, reflecting her ability to breathe on her own.

The neighbor was also injured in the shock but managed to call the paramedics.

Michael Bunko, a director at WA’s electricity regulator, believed the tragedy was likely caused by a fault in the neutral conductor supplying power to the property.

A Gofundme has also been launched to help the family pay for medical bills and other costs during this period.

‘This will assist in Denishar’s medical care that will be required and also help the family immediately in supporting her during this period,’ the Gofundme page says.

They have raised almost $6,500 in three days.
