Perth high school teacher accused of sexually abusing teenage girls

A public high school teacher from Perth accused of committing sex offences against four teenage girls has been stood down by the education department

The man, 35, was recently charged by Western Australia’s child abuse squad detectives with six counts of indecently dealing with a child over the age of 13 and under 16.

The alleged offences occured between March and June this year.

Police will allege the teacher abused four students aged 14 and 15 who all attended the school where he taught.

The alleged offences occured in various locations, including school grounds and at a school camp, The West Australian reported.

‘It is alleged the offences were committed by the accused while he was performing his duties as a teacher,’ police said.

It’s understood the teacher also allegedly talked to students about his sexual fantasies while rubbing sunscreen on himself, the publication reported.

The WA Education Department stood down the teacher as soon as it was aware of the allegations.

‘Swift action was taken immediately after the Department of Education was advised of allegations of inappropriate behaviour involving students from a southern suburbs school and the staff member was stood down,’ director-general Lisa Rodgers said.

‘As this action is subject to an active investigation by the WA Police Force, I cannot comment further.’

The man was arrested in September and has already appeared in Fremantle Magistrates Court.

He’ll reappear in court later this month.
