  • Claims alleged incident occurred at Bada Bing cafe in Woodlands in March
  • Family claims the three felt unwell after meal and tested positive to THC

A family is demanding answers after claiming their two young children were served a marijuana-laced brownie at a Perth cafe.

They claim three members of the family tested positive to tetrahydrocannabinol after sharing a chocolate brownie at the Bada Bing cafe in Woodlands in the city’s west on March 2.

The mother identified only as Sharon told ABC Radio Perth that her five-year-old daughter Emily was the first to feel unwell shortly after eating the sweet treat, telling her father ‘she was seeing things that weren’t there’.

The girl was taken to hospital, where she showed symptoms of tachycardia and tested positive for marijuana.

Her three-year-old-brother Thomas’ urine later tested positive to cannabis after feeling drowsy and nauseous

His mother also began to experience symptoms of tetrahydrocannabinol intoxication, also known as THC.

Her husband Michael, who didn’t eat any of the treat says he was fine.

He claimed he returned to the cafe the next day to buy another chocolate brownie, which also later tested positive for THC.

According to correspondence between the City of Stirling and the family, seen by the ABC, that brownie tested positive for THC.

It’s not known how the incident occurred and Daily Mail Australia doesn’t suggest the marijuana laced brownie was deliberately served to the family.

The family reported the incident to WA Police and City of Stirling Council.

The council has confirmed it has initiated prosecution action against cafe owner Nathan Sharp.

The charges will be before Perth Magistrates Court on July 19.

‘The City has brought two charges against Nathan Sharp, trading as Bada Bing Café, of having sold food that was unsuitable contrary to Section 18(2) of the Food Act 2008,’ a spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia.

‘Analysis of one brownie confirmed the presence of THC and other cannabinoids. As this matter is not yet before the courts, the City is unable to go into further detail.

‘However we can assure our residents and the community that we have done a thorough investigation. This appears to be an isolated incident and the City believes it has addressed any potential risk to the community.’

The cafe declined to comment to ABC Radio Perth but later claimed no charges were laid during a WA Police investigation.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted the cafe and WA Police for further comment.

Cafe co-owner Simona Sharp has told AAP they were ‘most disappointed’ to learn of the charges via the media.

‘It came as a total shock to us that a Perth family is alleging that they became ill after eating at our cafe,’ she said in a statement to AAP.

‘We of course have and continue to fully investigate this allegation.

‘There will now be a court process, which has to take its course.’
