A woman from Texas thought she was seeing things when a kangaroo ended up jumping across the road she was driving along.

Cindy Kaut White, 51, got quite the surprise after the marsupial ended up bouncing across Highway 69 in the town of Lumberton on Sunday morning.

‘I knew I wasn’t drinking cause I just came from church,’ Cindy told DailyMail.com. ‘I was driving home when this kangaroo ran out in front of me, or hopped!’

She was driving her truck with her 19-year-old son Triston who knew immediately what they had both just seen.

Cindy wasn’t the only person who spotted the unusual animal.

Lumberton Police Chief Danny Sullins said the department got calls from several people who had seen it hopping down the highway with many posting videos online.

Cindy waited at the side the road keeping track of the animal until help arrived.

Her main worry was that the animal could run back onto the highway and be injured, so she tried to keep it off the road.

‘We kept going up and down the street beside we were afraid she would get back on the main highway,’ she explained. ‘They should rename that street kangaroo run!’ Cindy joked.

Police ended up chasing after the animal for more than an hour before its owner realized what was going on and that his beloved pet had escaped.

He was able to tranquilize the kangaroo and bring it back home.

The animal usually lives in a special enclosure at a home in Lumberton but was somehow able to jump over the fence, which now clearly needs to be made higher.

Harding County Deputies and Lumberton Police were chasing after the animal for over an hour before the owner was able to tranquilize the kangaroo and bring it home safely
