Pete Murray shares heartbreaking family loss: ‘We will all miss you’

Pete Murray took to social media this week to share the heartbreaking news that his beloved brother-in-law Don died over the weekend.

The Australian singer, 54, shared a photo to Instagram capturing Don playing the congas on stage as part of Pete’s band, and captioned it with some tragic words.

‘I haven’t posted much over the last few days as I lost Don, my brother-in-law on the weekend. It is such a massive loss for my whole family,’ Pete began.

‘Don has been in our lives for over 30 years and he was one of the nicest, funnest, kindest guys I had the pleasure of knowing. I could not have asked for a better brother-in-law.’

Pete then revealed it was Don’s dream to perform the conga drums on stage with him and that he was happy to oblige during his 2013 tour.

‘Don asked if he could jump up and play with the band on congas. He asked if I could not make a big deal of it and I said of course… He was so embarrassed but deep down he loved it.

‘We will all miss you so much mate. Thank you for making our lives so much fun for so many years,’ Pete added.

Many of Murray’s followers were quick to offer their condolences.

‘So sorry for your loss bro,’ wrote singer Jon Stevens and another fan added: ‘So sad for you Pete and your family. Thinking of you all.’

In May last year, Murray revealed that losing his father at a young age motivated him to start his music career.

The folk singer, who was just 18 years old when his father died at 47, said the tragic loss made him look for a career which allowed him to spend time with family.

‘What I wanted out of life was time because my dad died. He and mum bought a caravan and they were about to travel around Australia,’ he told News Corp.

‘But dad died one month before that happened. I didn’t want that to happen to me. I wanted to be able to have time to spend with my family and friends,’ he continued.

Pete’s extraordinary success in the music industry has seen him sell over 1.2million albums within Australia and allowed him to live the life he always dreamed of.
