Peter Andre discusses losing brother Andrew to cancer

His brother Andrew passed away in December 2012 after losing his battle to kidney cancer.

And Peter Andre stopped off at the Good Morning Britain studios on Tuesday, admitting the pain of his death ‘tore’ his family apart during an interview about raising awareness for Cancer Research UK.

The 44-year-old actor confessed that his family have ‘never got over’ losing Andrew during his emotional plea to presenters Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid.

Stressing the importance of getting checked out at the GP, Peter said: ‘Early diagnosis is key. I lost my brother five years ago, it tore our family apart.

‘We don’t talk about it, we’ve never really got over it. It made me realise millions of families go through this.

‘Us guys sometimes are a bit stubborn, sometimes you think it’s nothing, but it could be too late. It’s really important.’

Andrew was diagnosed with kidney cancer in February 2012 and spent months undergoing chemotherapy, before tragically passing away in December of the same year, aged 54.

Peter had postponed his tour to spend time with his brother at the whole family was at his bedside in his final moments.

A spokesperson for the Mysterious Girl singer said at the time: ‘Peter is devastated. He was very, very, very close to his brother.

During his appearance on GMB, Peter also discussed the shock Strictly Come Dancing elimination at the weekend.

Peter – who competed in the 2015 edition of the competition with Janette Manrara – insisted the former JLS singer ‘didn’t deserve’ to be axed.

He said: ‘It didn’t sit well. With someone like aston, the guy was great.

‘To go from being the highest score the previous week, to bottom of the leaderboard, in the dance off and out, it wasn’t right.’
