Peter Phillips faces further royal heartache after splitting from his girlfriend – with the couple likely to repeatedly bump into each other at a string of society events this summer.

The pair are said to have now gone their separate ways after the relationship ‘ran its course’, but remain amicable, with no one else believed to be involved.
Lindsay, an oil tycoon’s daughter, shares a close social circle with Mr Phillips and his sister, Zara, who she knows from their school days at £45,000-a-year Gordonstoun.
Lindsay previously joined Peter at both Wimbledon and Ascot, as well as the Coronation concert. She was also among the guests at the royal’s 2011 wedding to rugby star Mike Tindall.

But Peter – said to be the late Queen’s favourite grandson – appeared to be without Lindsay at the Bahrain Grand Prix at the start of March.
Royal expert Michael Cole said the couple were ‘bound to’ meet at a society event soon.
He said: ‘They are quite a close knit bunch of aristocrats and within these society circles she is one of the people who you always invite to events.
‘They are going to run into each other which always causes a little frisson. I don’t think anybody said it was going to be the real thing and I am sure she will be able to take it for what it was.
‘I am sure they will be able to meet on reasonably good terms.’
Royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams said: ‘She is unquestionably close to his family and she moves in the exact same circles.
‘I would certainly expect her to remain extremely good friends, having attended a royal christening and reportedly met the late Queen.
‘There is every reason to assume she will remain a close part of the scene and they will have a friendly relationship.

‘There is every chance he will take a lead from his mother Princess Anne who remains on very good terms with her ex Captain Mark Phillips.’
Mr Cole, a former BBC television royal correspondent, also said Lindsay is likely to have sought advice from Peter’s sister Zara during the breakup.
He said: ‘It’s a complicated situation and I am sure she will have talked to Zara.
‘She will be discreet about it, the worst thing she could do would be to make a fuss.’
Rumours of a romance between Peter and mum-of-two Lindsay first emerged when he made a visit to see her in March 2021 – raising questions around whether he had broken lockdown restrictions.
Eight months later, he showed he was serious about his new relationship when he brought Lindsay as his date to his nephew Lucas’s christening.
The couple were photographed in a car together ahead of the gathering.
Peter, the eldest child of Princess Anne and her first husband Captain Mark Phillips, then took the highly significant step of introducing Lindsay to his late grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, who was said to have been ‘delighted’.
Lindsay was introduced to Her late Majesty at a shooting party at Windsor and the encounter was described as ‘warm’ by a source.
