Philadelphia 76ers unveil a TINY statue of their legendary point guard Allen Iverson… but fans mock it for looking like a ‘toy solider’ and an ‘action figure’

Fans were surprised after Allen Iverson’s miniature statue was unveiled outside the Philadelphia 76ers training facility on Friday.

Iverson, who played in Philadelphia for 12 seasons, was honored on ‘Legends Walk’ where 76ers greats such as Wilt Chamberlain, Julius Erving, and Charles Barkley all have monuments.

Although he is not the first to have the small statue in the City of Brotherly Love, it did not stop fans from making fun of its size on social media.

‘Why is it like 3 feet tall? This is an action figure,’ one user said.

‘Looks like you can pick this up at the NBA.com store,’ another user suggested.

Iverson joined other 76ers greats in the Legends Walk outside their training facility 

‘That’s Muggsy Bogues,’ a third added.

Other users compared the statue to a lawn gnome, a rec league participation trophy, and a toy soldier. Another fan joked the statue was made small due to Iverson not winning a championship with the 76ers.

2024 has been off to a rough start for NBA statues. Besides fans’ displeasure over Iverson’s undersized monument, the Lakers’ recently unveiled Kobe Bryant statue is riddled with spelling errors.

Amid the ridicule surrounding the sculptures, the Miami Heat are working on a statue of Dwyane Wade, who shared the court with Iverson and Bryant throughout their careers.

Iverson was one of the most influential players in the NBA and played 12 seasons with the 76ers

Iverson won the MVP in 2001, lead the NBA in scoring four times and steals on three occasions

Iverson played in Philadelphia from 1996 to 2006 before making short stints with the Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons, and Memphis Grizzlies. Iverson is considered one of the trailblazers in the NBA and was named the NBA MVP in 2001, along with his 11 All-Star and nine All-NBA selections.

Additionally, he led the NBA in scoring four times and in steals on three different occasions. Before his statue on Legends Walk, the team retired his No. 3 jersey in 2014, two years before his induction into the Basketball Hall of Fame.

The Answer reunited with the 76ers in 2009 before heading to Besiktas in Turkey and calling it a career in 2011.
