The Philadelphia Eagles made perhaps the biggest splash on NFL cut day after they acquired tight end Albert Okwuegbunam and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick from the Denver Broncos in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

Okwuegbunam is coming off a monster exhibition finale in which he caught seven passes for 109 yards and a touchdown against the Rams, after which his teammates serenaded him with chants of ‘Albert O! Albert O!,’ as he is often referred to by fans around the league as well as media members.

‘I’ve always been capable of doing this,’ he said afterward. ‘Tonight, I just got the opportunities to show it.’

After playing in 26 games over his first three NFL seasons, Okwuegbunam had 54 catches for 546 yards and four touchdowns.

He was originally selected in the fourth round of the 2020 NFL Draft after he played his college ball at the University of Missouri.

Okwuegbunam had came into last season expected to be the starting tight end before eventually falling down the depth chart.

The Broncos tight end group is now led by Greg Dulcich and Adam Trautman.

During his rookie season Okwuegbunam played in four games before suffering a torn ACL that ruled him out for the rest of the year.

In his final season with Denver last season the 25-year-old made 10 receptions for 95 yards and one touchdown. He played in only eight games and started in just one.

He will now be part of a tight end room in Philadelphia that is headed by Dallas Goedert and also possess Jack Stoll and Grant Calcaterra.

Eagles fans took to social media to excitedly welcome their newest acquisition to the team in excitement after news of the deal first broke. Okwuegbunam was originally expected to be released by the Broncos before the Eagles swooped in for him.

The Okwuegbunam deal was not the only trade Denver made during the day either as the Broncos also acquired kicker Wil Lutz from the New Orleans Saints in exchange for a seventh-round pick next year.

Lutz had previously kicked for Denver’s new head coach Sean Payton while the duo were both in New Orleans, before Payton’s retirement.

The Broncos owner Rob Walton is spending $100 million to upgrade Empower Field at Mile High just over a year after acquiring the team for $4.5 billion.
