A 33-year-old man who may have been sleeping inside a dumpster had to be freed from a trash truck after getting stuck in the truck’s compactor section when the waste was emptied into the vehicle.
Authorities initially said the man was a prisoner who had fled from the Kintock Group halfway house, which serves as an interim stop before offenders re-enter the general population.
But a roll call revealed no escapees, Pennsylvania Department of Corrections spokeswoman Susan McNaughton told NBC.

The man was freed from the truck’s compactor around 7.40am. As he was loaded onto a stretcher, he could be seen moving his arms after the rescue.
Philadelphia police told NBC that the man was in critical condition with abdomen, hip and leg injuries.
The man was taken to Temple Hospital for treatment. It’s not clear how the man got into the secured facility grounds.
But it’s believed that he may have been asleep inside the dumpster when he was dumped inside the trash truck or he may have already been inside the truck when it entered the grounds.
No other details have been released and the man’s identity is still unknown.
