Phillip Sami gives Clinton Gutherson a taste of his own medicine as Titans winger MOCKS Eels captain by copying his trademark celebration after stunning try against Parramatta
Eels star Clinton Gutherson got a taste of his own medicine on Sunday, when he was on the receiving end of his trademark celebration in Parramatta’s 32-28 win over the Titans.
Gold Coast winger Phillip Sami scored a stunning try to put the visitors ahead early in the second half, before standing over Gutherson and celebrating with his arm aloft.
The pose has long been part of Gutherson’s repertoire, with the Eels captain routinely wheeling out the celebration after scoring a try.

The roles, however, were reversed at CommBank Stadium on Sunday, with the 27-year-old stranded on the turf as Simi celebrated his second try of the afternoon.
Gutherson ultimately had the last laugh, as Parramatta kicked off the season with a win at the end of a closely-contested affair in Sydney.
A quick brace from Sean Russell put the Eels 10-0 up inside nine minutes, before the Titans hit back through Sami’s first try of the afternoon.
Parramatta pulled clear as Shaun Lane and Waqa Blake both scored, before Russell completed his hat-trick with less than 10 minutes to go in the first half.

The Titans, however, refused to give in and closed the gap to 26-22 at the break with Erin Clark and Brian Kelly scoring twice in three minutes.
Sami’s second half try put Gold Coast ahead, before Mitchell Moses slotted three penalties to get the Eels over the line.
Parramatta won the penalty contest 7-1, much to the annoyance of Titans coach Justin Holbrook, who claimed his side are penalised by the referees as they aren’t one of the NRL’s superpowers.

‘I’m not here to take anything away from Parramatta, it’s about us not being one of the big clubs and not getting anything,’ he said after the game.
‘If they’re 50-50 calls make them 50-50s. I’m not asking for 7-1 [in the penalty count] and 3-0 [in the captain’s challenges].
‘We’re peppering their line and there’s a captain challenge about the leg touching the ball, 20 minutes later we’re in the ruck […] someone tell me the difference?
‘It has a big bearing on the game. Make it 50-50 or get rid of the captain’s challenge because it’s never favoured us.’
