Phillies stars Kyle Schwarber and Trea Turner get rowdy in stands at Pennsylvania’s Little League World Series game

Prior to their game against the Washington Nationals in the ‘Little League Classic’, the Philadelphia Phillies watched on as the kids took over the show.

A Sunday afternoon matchup between the Metro Region representatives from Smithfield, Rhode Island and the the Mid-Atlantic representatives from Media, Pennsylvania was watched on by many members of the MLB team.

Cameras panned to the Phillies cheering and celebrating in the bottom of the fifth inning after the Pennsylvania team tied the game at 2-2.

Stars like Bryce Harper, Trea Turner, and Kyle Schwarber were screaming on as they watched the Philadelphia suburbs celebrate their achievement.

Unfortunately, that feeling was short-lived as the Rhode Islanders won the game 7-2, eliminating Pennsylvania from the tournament.

The PA team – playing in their native Williamsport – couldn’t pull off a win against Rhode Island

The Phillies then played in the Little League Classic in Williamsport, losing to the Nationals

It was an unfortunate result for the team from the Keystone State as they played in a Little League World Series that has made its home in the central Pennsylvania town of Williamsport since 1947.

The kids from Media were hoping to become the first Pennsylvania team to win the tournament since 1960.

When it was the grown-ups turn, they too couldn’t pull out a result – as the Phillies fell to the Nationals 4-3.

After Bryce Harper told the kids who lost to use their Williamsport experience as a stepping stone toward something great, the slugger went 0-for-3 against his former team.

Trevor Williams tossed six shutout innings and the Nationals held off an inspired late comeback from Philly to get the victory and win the weekend’s series.
