Photo series pictures Americans in their bedrooms

Men and women of all ages have been pictured inside their bedrooms in a series of strikingly intimate portraits that give a raw glimpse into their lives.

Barbara Peacock has been traveling around the US to photograph her subjects, looking to capture ‘working-class Americans, beneath notice and yet the very fabric of our nation’.

The photographer, who describes herself as ‘passionate, but not sentimental about America’, began her project a year ago. At the time, she took pictures mostly on the East Coast, and she has since expanded into the South.

Peacock plans to spend three to five years working on the photo series and aims to cover ‘all corners’ of the US, hoping that her audience takes in and embraces ‘all lives and the minute details of each enigmatic life’.

Each picture comes with a statement from the subject, from a 95-year-old woman to a five-year-old girl, helping to tell the story behind each photograph.
