Physicist who sexually abused girl, eight, every day for two years over a decade ago is found guilty

Thomas Padikal, 71, was found guilty after just 30 minutes of deliberation for raping an eight-year-old girl every day across a two year period beginning in 2007

A Pennsylvania jury has convicted a New Jersey man of historic child sex abuse after he was found guilty of abusing a girl more than a decade ago when she was just eight-years-old, and later created a website to document his sickening sexual obsession with her.

Thomas Padikal, 71, was found guilty on Friday by a Bucks County Jury of involuntary deviate sexual intercourse with a child, aggravated indecent assault of a child and other related crimes, according to the county’s District Attorney.

The charges related to Padikal’s years of abuse against the girl which were slated to have started in 2007, when she was just eight-years-old.

He’s thought to have abused the child on a near-daily basis across a period of two years.

According to prosecutors the physical abuse only stopped when the girl moved away with her family, however Padikal continued to obsess over the infant for nearly a decade afterwards.

The radiologist and oncologist created a website dedicated to his victim, in which he ‘enshrine his obsession’ with the girl, and also followed her on social media.

It was also revealed that Padikal kept a PowerPoint file containing numerous images of her face ‘crudely imposed’ onto pornographic images of grown women.

Last year, Padikal texted the now-adult girl saying he ‘sacrificed himself for her sexual education’.

He later relayed the same message to her in a phone-call in November 2018, which was recorded by Bensalem police, and arrested shortly afterwards.

After two-and-a-half days of testimony which included jurors observing Padikal’s texts and hearing his phone call played out in the courtroom, the jury returned a guilty verdict in less than 30 minutes.

‘The defendant has managed to rationalize the unthinkable,’ Bucks County Deputy District Attorney Kristin McElroy said. ‘He never banked on [the victim]’s bravery. He never banked on justice.’

Following the jury’s verdict, Judge Raymond F. McHugh revoked Padikal’s bail and deferred sentencing for approximately 60 days while a mental health assessment and a pre-sentence investigation could be carried out.

In social media posts, Padikal claims to have been a Nobel Prize nominee in economics and physics.

One image on his Facebook page, intended to serve as a dating advertisement, states: ‘I work in Radiology and Oncology. Quite busy you might say.

‘Looking for a pretty girl to marry and cherish. Must be enormously loving and photogenic – expecting over the top international exposure.

‘A nominee for Nobel Prize [sic], I also own banks, many corporations, business jets and non-profits with significant philanthropic initiatives.’

At the end of the message, Padikal attached his phone number.

He will be remain in incarceration while awaiting the results of his mental evaluation and subsequent sentence.
