Pictured couple involved in horror Sydney crash

A horrified witness has recalled he moment he saw a motorist ‘driving erratically’ before they ploughed in to a learner driver and killed two young women on Friday night.

Jarrad Sherlock was travelling on Northern Road at Orchard Hill in Sydney’s west when he noticed a Mazda hatchback ‘ducking and weaving’ through traffic.

‘He came flying past me in the left hand lane, going about 100 kilometres in a 60 km/h roadworks zone,’ Mr Sherlock told the Daily Telegraph.  

The 21-year-old turned to his girlfriend and said ‘what is this guy doing, he is going to crash’.

Just moments later, the Mazda it believed to have mounted the median strip and drove on to the other side of the road, colliding with the Nissan hatchback.

The 17-year-old driver and her 23-year-old rear passenger, who was heavily pregnant with twins, died at the scene after their hatchback collided with the car travelling north on a New South Wales highway.

‘I jumped out and ran over and tried to see if anyone was alive. Another guy ran to the Nissan and I went to the Mazda.

‘He was alive but unconscious. I ran to the other car, I saw a lady in the back seat but she had already passed away.

‘The thing that gets me the most is she was a L-plater, they had done nothing wrong,’ Mr Sherlock said. 

Emergency services attempted to revive the driver and her rear passenger but both women and the unborn babies died at the scene.

The 25-year-old male front passenger of the Nissan, was rushed to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The 29-year-old driver of the Mazda was trapped for a short time and moved to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition with leg injuries, he is also under police guard.  

The Nissan was travelling north on Northern Road in Orchard Hills in Sydney’s west when it collided with a Mazda travelling in the opposite direction at 7.40pm on Friday.   

Police are now investigating whether the man was speeding before the tragic accident.

Debris from the crash was strewn across both lanes of the major motorway in Orchard Hills. 

Two other vehicles were hit in the crash but the occupants in each car came out unscathed.  

Police are calling for any witness’ to the accident to step forward.
