Piers Morgan jokes Laura Woods has ‘pulled an Alan Brazil’ as talkSPORT host skips breakfast show after Glastonbury, before returning today
- Woods was absent from her usual Monday morning show on the radio station
- The presenter took the day off after spending a few days at Glastonbury festival
- Morgan jokingly compared her to Brazil – famous for his sickies on talkSPORT
Piers Morgan couldn’t resist poking fun at Laura Woods after the talkSPORT host skipped her usual Monday morning show following Glastonbury festival.
Woods, who has presented the radio station’s breakfast show for three years, took Monday off after a weekend at the music festival, where she was seen partying with friends and soaking up Elton John’s closing performance on Sunday night.
And the morning after the night before, the 35-year-old was absent from talkSPORT duty as she recovered from her boozy outing, which came as a surprise to guest Morgan.
During his conversation with stand-in host Sam Matterface and former Premier League star Dean Saunders, the broadcaster joked that Woods had ‘pulled an Alan Brazil’ by skipping the breakfast show.
‘What happened to Laura Woods?’ Morgan asked. ‘Has she pulled an Alan Brazil here? What’s going on?

After discovering she was absent from Monday morning’s show, Morgan compared Woods to Alan Brazil (pictured) – famous for pulling a number of sickies on talkSPORT over the years
‘The last thing I see is Laura Woods is on the lash at Glastonbury and the next thing I discover, no offence to you two, but I was looking forward to a nice little chat with Laura this morning and discover she is not there.’
Brazil, the former Manchester United and Tottenham forward who has worked on talkSPORT for almost two decades, has famously pulled a number of sickies on the station over the years.
After missing a show in 2004 after Cheltenham Festival, and blaming his absence on being locked in his B&B, the Scot was sacked by talkSPORT before being reinstated three weeks later.
Brazil’s other excuses for missing shows range from eating dodgy crab to claiming he needed to save himself for his wife’s birthday – which just so happened to fall on St Patrick’s Day.
Yet after the light-hearted comparison, Morgan was quick to pay tribute to Woods – who returned to host the show on Tuesday morning – as she prepares to wave goodbye to talkSPORT.
Woods announced earlier this month that she is set to leave talkSPORT on June 28
Earlier this month Woods informed listeners that she will be making her final appearance on Wednesday June 28, with the broadcaster lined up to become a lead presenter for BT Sport’s relaunch as TNT Sports.
And Morgan added: ‘All I was going to say, and I’ll say it in her absence, is that I know it’s her last week on talkSPORT and she’s been absolutely brilliant.
‘Laura, in your absence, what I was going to say is thank you for all the brilliant stuff you’ve done over the last three years.
‘It’s been a pleasure to be with you on occasion and to listen to you.
‘I wish you the absolute best on your next venture.’
