Piers Morgan slams Mikel Arteta after former Arsenal striker Aubameyang stars in El Clasico

‘Furious’ Piers Morgan hits out at Mikel Arteta and his ‘absurd’ decision to get rid of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, as he slams deluded Arsenal fans for thinking they’re better without the ‘world class’ striker following his brace in El Clasico

  • Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang joined Barcelona from Arsenal back in January
  • Since then he has flourished in Spain, netting seven goals in seven LaLiga games
  • He scored twice in El Clasico on Sunday as Barcelona hammered Real Madrid
  • Piers Morgan is angry that Mikel Arteta allowed Aubameyang to leave Arsenal
  • He has hit out at claims that Arsenal are a better side without the forward in it

Piers Morgan has hit out at Mikel Arteta for allowing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to leave Arsenal after the forward starred in El Clasico for Barcelona against Real Madrid on Sunday.

Aubameyang scored twice and provided an assist in Barcelona’s thumping 4-0 win as he created two pieces of history at the Bernabeu. He became the first player to score in five consecutive games against Real Madrid this century, while he is also the only man to be directly involved in three goals on his El Clasico debut in the 21st century.

The Gabonese striker gave Barcelona the lead in the 29th minute, and Morgan was quick to sing his praises, while questioning Arteta’s decision to offload the 32-year-old in January.

‘Another brilliant goal by ⁦@Auba – this time in El Clasico. He’s been the world’s most lethal goal machine since joining Barcelona… and with every goal he scores, he makes Arteta look more absurd for giving him away,’ Morgan wrote on Twitter.

One follower hit back, claiming that Aubameyang’s move had worked out for Arsenal and Barcelona, but Morgan was having none of it.

He responded: ‘A manager’s job is to manage great talent & get the best out of them, not drive them out of the club.’

Aubameyang then netted his second goal of the game shortly after half time to take his overall tally to seven goals in as many games in LaLiga. Morgan couldn’t resist aiming another dig at Arteta.

‘UPDATE: Aubameyang scores again in El Clasico.

‘Two goals & one assist so far, and it’s still only the 53rd minute. You watching @m8arteta ???’, he added.

TV presenter Gary Lineker chimed in at this point, writing: ‘Thoughts are with you at this difficult time,’ accompanied by a laughing emoji.

Morgan insisted that he was happy watching Aubameyang shining on the biggest stage, but just wished that he was still doing it in an Arsenal shirt.

He continued: ‘I’m enjoying watching @Auba work his magic for Barca, whilst remaining incredulous & furious that Arsenal gave away such a wonderful world class striker. Trust the process, my a*se.’

After a dazzling display in the Spanish capital, Aubameyang took to social media to deliver a post-match tongue-in-cheek message to those who had written him off as he stated: ‘Hello from the finished player.’

Morgan replied to the tweet with a series of hand-clapping emojis.

Since Aubameyang departed Arsenal, the Gunners have won six of their seven league matches, and they currently occupy the final Champions League spot.

However, first-choice striker Alexandre Lacazette has only scored one top-flight goal during this period, and that came from the penalty spot. Meanwhile, Eddie Nketiah is yet to register a league goal this term.
