A woman was left soaked after an Audi driver deliberately swerved into a puddle while she was waiting on the pavement.

In the dash cam clip, the car steadily drives along Tithe Barn Road in Stafford, west Midlands, around 3.44pm on Friday.

Seconds later, it goes around the roadwork sign makes a direct beeline across the other lane and creates a huge splash in the puddle before driving off.

The female pedestrian peers around almost in disbelief in the clip which was posted to a Staffordshire Tactical Informational Group anonymously on Tuesday evening.

It was captioned: ‘Audi who decided to drive aggressively onto the wrong side of Tithe Barn Road today to splash a lady, your details and this footage has now been passed onto the police!

‘Enjoy your three points and a fine! I stopped to check on the lady who was very shaken!’

What does the law say about deliberately splashing pedestrians?

According to the Road Traffic Act 1988, a person could be fined up to £5,000 for deliberately splashing someone as it comes under the offence of ‘careless and offensive driving’.

The act defines this as using a ‘mechanically propelled vehicle on a road or other public place without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for other persons using the road or place’.

Those who are found guilty of driving through puddles and splashing pedestrians will be ‘likely’ to face a £100 fine and three penalty points if caught by police, according to RAC.

But if their driving ‘amounts to a clear act of incompetence, selfishness, impatience or aggressiveness’, the accused refuses to pay or the case gets taken to court, the price can climb to £5,000.

Shel Holland said: ‘Wow what a p****! I get that sometimes it’s unavoidable, but to deliberately splash someone.

‘You sir/madam are a c*** end!’

Jackie Howard said: ‘What a t***!” Mandy Dring commented: ‘Absolute t***** shouldn’t be driving.’

Steph Brokhill wrote: ‘Aww that poor girl!’

The post was later updated saying the police had been in touch.

Doeloris Stigess said: ‘Police have been in touch with the poster requesting the full unedited version.

‘The guy can look forward to a nice fine and points!’

Staffordshire Police confirmed they are investigating the incident and ask any witnesses to contact 101, quoting incident number 577 of 11 October.

They have received the dash-cam footage to help their investigation.

Staffordshire Police have been approached for comment by MailOnline.
