Pink defies gravity in American Music Awards performance

She’s no stranger to pushing boundaries when it comes to her daring performances.

But Pink put on her most epic display to date during Sunday night’s American Music Awards at the Microsoft Center in downtown Los Angeles.

The singer, 38, proved she was the ultimate daredevil as she put on a breathtaking and death defying show while belting out her track Beautiful Trauma while live on ABC.

Death-defying: Pink (real name Alecia Beth Moore) is known for anyways pushing the envelope with every performance

And So What hitmaker’s vertigo-inducing act was one of the highlights of the evening, as she seemingly defied death in a purple sequined bodysuit that matched her hair color.

The songstress flipped and cartwheeled on the side of the 34-story JW Marriott hotel building all while performing live.

The reactions to the high wire act were uniformly glowing, from both attendees of the star-studded event and social media users alike.

Ellen DeGeneres took to Twitter from her official account, writing: ‘Just when you think you’ve seen it all, @Pink outdoes herself. Wow.’

Others took the opportunity to throw shade at Pink’s former enemy Christina Aguilera’s performance in tribute to the late Whitney Houston at the event.

One user posted: ‘How is Pink hitting these notes while scaling a building but [Aguilera] couldn’t hit hers standing still?’

After the performance, the mother-of-two took to social media to thank her co-performers, aerial dance troupe Bandaloop.

In an Instagram post, Pink wrote: ‘Yeah… we did that. Bandaloop. They are the most incredible group of daring performers.

‘They put me to shame, but still opened up their art form to me. THANKYOU to everyone that helped us to make this dream happen.

‘THANKYOU to the American Music Awards for taking a chance with me.

‘It was something none of us had ever imagined could be possible.

‘It was the scariest thing I have ever done, and we did it all in five days. Start to finish. Hell yeah. I love you bandaloop. [heart emoji]’

It was Pink’s second performance of the night, after opening the show alongside fellow pop princess Kelly Clarkson, 35, with a rendition of R.E.M classic, Everybody Hurts, in tribute to first responders around America.

The singer – real name Alecia Beth Moore – attended the event alongside her husband, former motorcycle racer Carey Hart, 42, who proudly sat by her side in the audience.

Just a few days ago, the talented artist was seen practicing for it as she was fit with a harness and suspended off the side of the high-rise building in downtown Los Angeles.

The singer said the stunt was ‘by far the craziest, most insane thing I’ve ever attempted to do’.

She explained: ‘This is the first time that I’ve ever panicked … I’m just afraid I’m going to get up there and be like, “I don’t know if I can do this.”

‘I don’t care about heights, I just care about being able to actually breathe up there.

ABC 7 posted a clip of the songstress dancing along the side of the glass building, with awestruck fans commenting on the singer’s dedication to her performance.

‘It’s pretty amazing, I mean, she’s up there dancing on the side of a building,’ an onlooker said.

Another described the scenario: ‘She was like, flipping, and she had on this great, sparkly onesie.’

The What About Us artist – who has a daughter named Willow, six, and 10-month-old son named Jameson with husband Carey – said that the sequence is ‘nothing you can prepare for’ mentally.
