Pittsburgh Penguins hit back for shoot-out win against…

Evgeni Malkin and Jake Guentzel scored in the last six minutes as the Pittsburgh Penguins took the Columbus Blue Jackets into overtime and then beat them in a shoot-out.

Columbus held a 4-2 lead into the third period but Malkin’s power-play strike and Guentzel’s 13th goal of the season tied the game at 4-4.

Malkin also found the net in the shoot-out to hand the Penguins a 5-4 win.

A shoot-out was also needed in the game between the Washington Capitals and the New York Rangers, where 67 shots were made but none found the net during 60 minutes.

Mats Zuccarello and Mika Zibanejad found the net for the Rangers and Ondrej Pavelec saved from Alex Ovechkin for the 1-0 win.

There was also success for the New York Islanders, with a Mathew Barzal goal just over a minute into overtime giving them a 3-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

A brace from Riley Nash in the second period helped the Boston Bruins to a 5-1 win over the Ottawa Senators, while Nico Hischier also scored two as the New Jersey Devils beat the Detroit Red Wings 3-1.

The Carolina Hurricanes scored twice in the third period in their 3-1 win over the Montreal Canadiens, while the Nashville Predators beat the St Louis Blues 2-1.

There were also wins for the Minnesota Wild, who saw off the Dallas Stars 4-2 and the Winnipeg Jets, who beat the Edmonton Oilers 4-3.

The Arizona Coyotes got only their ninth win of the season, seeing off the Colorado Avalanche 3-1 and the Vegas Golden Knights went down 1-0 to the Anaheim Ducks within two minutes, but then scored four unanswered goals in a 4-1 win.
