With a completely new quarterback room, the Pittsburgh Steelers are not entirely committed to either of the new signal callers they recently acquired.

On Friday, the team signed quarterback Russell Wilson in free agency to a one-year, $1.2m contract.

Then, a day later, the team acquired Justin Fields from the Chicago Bears for the price of a conditional sixth-round pick.

Considering the two starting-caliber quarterbacks on their roster, many wonder what the dynamic is going to look like. Reports indicate that Pittsburgh isn’t going to entertain a competition between Wilson and Fields for a starting job.

But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, he thinks that the team will allow for some competition to take place – and that if Wilson loses out, he could be shipped out.

‘Think about the investment they have in each player. They essentially are giving Russell Wilson $1.2 million, while the Denver Broncos are paying him almost $38 million this year. Very little investment,’ Schefter said on NFL Live.

‘They gave up a conditional 2025 sixth-round pick for Justin Fields. Very little investment…They have the luxury of letting this play out during camp and doing whatever is best for that football team.’

Schefter also cited a unnamed NFL executive – who thinks that if Fields beats out Wilson for the starting job, the former Broncos quarterback could be moved before the season even starts.

‘There’s no commitment, obligation, loyalty to any of these guys. They didn’t pay very much for either one of them,’ Schefter said.

‘I even had an executive say if Justin Fields outplayed him, Russell Wilson, during training camp, they could see them moving on from him before the season.’

The Steelers will likely add another quarterback to their roster – considering the current team only has Wilson and Fields, with no third-string quarterback.
