Plane passenger sitting in window seat is left outraged after man beside her reaches across to take photos of view – but do YOU think it’s acceptable?

A plane passenger has reignited the debate over plane etiquette after voicing her outage around people leaning over to take window photos. 

Fanny Gagnon O’Donnell, who is from Montreal but currently working in Germany as an au pair, was taking a three-hour flight back from a trip to Spain when her patience was tested by her seat neighbor.

In a clip uploaded to TikTok – which has since been viewed more than three million times – the Canadian covertly films the man next to her as he constantly reaches over with his phone to take photos from the window. 

In the overlaid captions, she explains that she was ‘confused at first’ but assumed it would be a ‘one time thing,’ and she ‘let him do his thing.’ 

However, the photo taking antics continued and Fanny notes ‘there he is again,’ as his arm can be seen fully extended in front of her so he can get his prime plane view photos. 

She concludes in the clip: ‘Thank God it was only a three-hour flight.’

Fanny’s video quickly amassed hundreds of comments, with the vast majority of viewers siding with her. 

Some commenters said they would have closed the window blind to give the man a hint. 

Other viewers said they would have taken a more direct approach and said something to him or ‘smacked his hand away.’

One TikTok creator wrote in the comments section: ‘I’d be telling him if he wanted unrestricted access to the window – he shoulda got a window seat. Personal space is not optional.’

Some commenters recounted similar scenarios. 

However, one person revealed that their neighbor was more tactful in their approach.

She explained: ‘This happened to me once except it was the sweetest old man and he asked permission each time he wanted to take a photo.’

Another person said that they ended up taking photos on behalf of their neighbor who was ‘trying to get pictures without being in my space.’ 

At the beginning of her TikTok, Fanny explains that she was initially thrilled at being in a window seat and she even sent a selfie to her mom of her in the prime spot. 

But her mood began to sour as the man in the middle seat started encroaching on her space.  

Fanny told Newsweek that after the man took a few photos, she looked at him pointedly but he did not get the message. 

Recounting the chain of events from there, she said: ‘I closed the window to signify that it was over but he then seemed confused.

‘He tapped me on the shoulder a few minutes later to tell me to open the window again. I felt bad so I did.’
