PLAYER RATINGS: N’Golo Kante and Kai Havertz shine as Chelsea cruise to a comfortable win over Lille

Chelsea sealed a comfortable 2-0 victory over French side Lille in the first leg of their last-16 tie in the Champions League.

Goals from Kai Havertz and Christian Pulisic guided the Blues to victory at Stamford Bridge to give them a good chance of progressing into the quarter-finals as they look to retain the European crown.

CHELSEA 

Edouard Mendy: Mendy had very little to do in the match, but dealt with everything that was thrown his way. 6

Andreas Christensen: The Danish international was solid and helped the Blues keep a clean sheet albeit he didn’t have a great deal to do. 7

Thiago Silva: The experienced defender made vital blocks, clearances and interceptions to help keep Lille at bay. 7

Antonio Rudiger: Nearly scored an own goal in the first-half, but remained solid other than that, and put in a superb second-half display. 7

Cezar Azpilicueta: The captain offered a threat down the right flank, although his passes and crosses amounted to nothing. 6.5

N’Golo Kante: A superb energetic performance from the French midfielder. He made key tackles and interceptions. Also made a cracking run to set up Pulisic. 8

Mateo Kovacic: Kovacic had to come off injured in the 50th minute. Solid until then although he had his work cut out as he came up against Renato Sanches. 7

Marcos Alonso: The left wing-back made plenty of promising runs down the left and caused a lot of problems for the French side. 7

Hakim Ziyech: The Moroccan international provided a good corner for Havertz goal early on in the match, but hobbled off injured. 7

Kai Havertz: The German scored in the eighth minute of the contest and could have notched a few goals if he had taken his chances. 7.5

Christian Pulisic: One of his stronger performances for the Blues, made key passes, good runs and was rewarded with a goal in the 63rd minute. 7

Leo Jardim: The Brazilian goalkeeper put in a sturdy display and couldn’t do too much to prevent the two goals. 6

Zeki Celik: Created a good chance for Jonathan David when he caught Alonso out, but Silva cleared the danger. 6

Sven Botman: The Dutch defender managed to keep Chelsea at bay for long spells, but couldn’t help stop Havertz or Pulisic from scoring. 6.5

Tiago Djalo: The 21-year-old put in a solid display like Botman, but in similar fashion, part of the backline that couldn’t stop the Blues from scoring twice. 6

Amdou Onana: Midfield struggled to control possession, but they tried to get on the ball and make things happen, including Onana. 6

Xeka: Lille got over-run in midfield by Kante and the Blues midfield, but the Portuguese midfielder put in a solid effort. 6

Benjamin Andre: The midfielder failed to make too much of a difference in the match, but it was always going to be tough against Kante and Kovacic. 6

Renato Sanches: A bright spark for Lille, used his pace and strength to get on the ball, and cause Chelsea a few issues in the middle of the park. 7

Jonathan David: The striker struggled to get the better of Thiago Silva and was shut down by the Brazilian on numerous occasions, but continued to try get his side into the match. 6.5
