Pleasure boat smashes into Westminster Bridge just downstream from the Houses of Parliament

  • The City Cruisers vessel ploughed into the bridge at around 4pm today
  • Tourists had to be ferried from the boat but no injuries have been reported
  • Police have temporarily closed the bridge following the incident 

A pleasure boat full of tourists has crashed into Westminster Bridge on the River Thames today.

Passengers reportedly screamed as the City Cruisers boat ploughed into the bridge at around 4pm.

There have been no reported injuries from the incident near the Houses of Parliament. 

A pleasure boat carrying tourists has smashed into Westminster Bridge this afternoon 

Authorities had to ferry passengers off the vessel and the bridge has been closed.

Pictures posted on social media show how the top of the boat hit the underside of the bridge.

It appears the driver was unaware how low the bridge was.

The Metropolitan Police said: ‘Westminster Bridge is temporarily closed after a boat was involved in a collision with the bottom of the bridge.

‘London Fire and the local authority are in attendance. No injuries. 

‘Thanks for your patience. This incident is not terror related.’
