Lot 2 Cochrane Road, Thirroul has dimensions of 20 centimetres by 83.6 metres, meaning there’s not enough room to turn a ruler.
And if these dimensions don’t suit your needs there’s a triangle-shaped, 5 square metre lot close by on Lake Heights Road, inside someone’s backyard currently on sale for $2000.
The bizarre listings are due to a historical flaw in land ownership.
For decades the plots of land have not been recognised by Wollongong City Council.
But recently the NSW Valuer General officially identified the lots meaning the council had to start charging rates on them.
Most of the time the land was owned by now defunct development companies, meaning the rates were unpaid.
This means the council is able to sell the land to make up for lost rates.
