Poirier claims UFC are ‘probably’ waiting for McGregor to return before scheduling a FOURTH fight

Dustin Poirier claims UFC are ‘probably’ waiting for Conor McGregor to return before scheduling a FOURTH fight between the two arch-rivals… as Irishman continues to step up his recovery from his horrific injury

  • Dustin Poirier has expressed frustration with UFC bosses in recent weeks
  • The American has not fought since losing out on lightweight title in December
  • Conor McGregor has returned to sparring after breaking his leg against Poirier
  • The Irishman and Poirier have already faced each other three times

Dustin Poirier has excited UFC fans by teasing the prospect of fighting long-time rival Conor McGregor for a fourth time.

The American is keen to return to action for the first time since losing out on the lightweight title to Charles Oliveira last December.

He had been due to face Nate Diaz but talks with the UFC have stalled, and Poirier admitted this week that he ‘doesn’t know what is going on’.

Dustin Poirier could face Conor McGregor for a fourth time in what would be a huge UFC clash

Poirier and McGregor first locked horns in 2014, when the controversial Irishman knocked out the American in the opening round.

The ‘Diamond’ got his revenge in the January 2021 rematch, which triggered a trilogy bout that ended with McGregor suffering a horrific broken leg before the end of the first round.

The two could meet again in a fourth bout after Poirier teased the possibility on social media.

Asked whether the UFC are waiting for McGregor to return from his injury before setting up the fight, Poirier said: ‘Probably so.’

Poirier also expressed his frustration with UFC bosses over their failure to schedule a match for him, claiming he had not spoken to them in ‘two months’.

McGregor stepped up his recovery this week and is finally back sparring as he bids to return to the cage following his gruesome leg break.

The MMA legend is now in the final stages of his recovery and has recently resumed boxing training.

McGregor had been reportedly unable to step into the ring or cage with another competitor until receiving medical clearance but that has evidently been given in recent days.
