A triple Antarctic blast is set to sweep the southern states of Australia this week bringing plunging temperatures, strong winds and a heavy downpour of rain.
South Australia will be the first state to be hit with a ‘pulse of polar air’ beginning Wednesday.
Victoria, New South Wales, Tasmania and the ACT are also expected to experience the brutal cold fronts towards the end of the week.
Western Tasmania is forecast to receive 150mm of rain, with solid falls also predicted in South Australia, Victoria and southern New South Wales.
The extreme weather will bring wild gusts of wind in excess of 90km/h in South Australia and New South Wales.

‘Australia can expect several cold fronts in a row starting with South Australia from tomorrow, which will be the most affected,’ Weatherzone meteorologist Kim Westcott told Daily Mail Australia.
‘Cold fronts will also hit the other southern states on Friday and Sunday, with chances of snow in the resorts.’
Blizzards are expected in the New South Wales alpine areas above 1,700m from Wednesday evening.
‘The NSW National Parks and Wildlife Service recommends that back country travel be postponed until conditions improve,’ the Bureau of Meteorology has warned.
Ms Westcott added that the freezing temperatures will be ‘evenly matched’ in both Tasmania and Victoria.
BOM issued a severe weather warning in Tasmania with reports of ‘damaging’ north to northwesterly winds on Wednesday night.

A severe weather warning for gale force winds in Victoria on Wednesday has also been issued in the southern areas of the state.
Winds in Sydney are expected to reach 50km/h and 45 km/h in Melbourne.
Canberra will have a maximum temperature of 12C, which will drop to -4 on Sunday.
Hobart will reach temperatures up to 15 degrees, a minimum of 4C and will be ‘wettest’ of all states, according to Ms Westcott.
Melbourne, which looks set to shiver through a high of 16C, will also experience showers but won’t be as brutal as Hobart.
Sydney will experience strong northwesterly winds of 50km/h on Thursday morning but won’t be as cold as other states.
Meanwhile, Brisbane and Perth will experience a comfortable winter in comparison, with sunshine expected to bring temperatures in the early 20s.
