A suspected murderer nicknamed The Girlfriend Killer has been arrested in Guatemala accused of killing two girlfriends.
Jorge Humberto Martinez Cortez was arrested in the village of Rio Dulce, in the municipality of Livingston, in the north-eastern Guatemalan department of Izabal.
He allegedly strangled two of his girlfriends to death in 2014 and 2016, on both occasions two weeks after they moved in with him.

His ex-girlfriend Yang Kyung Jun Borrego, who he dated for two years, was strangled in 2014.
And his lover Campira Camorlinga Alanis was murdered on 31st December 2016 in the same way.
Official sources said that he then tried to cover up the later death by flooding the house with gas.
He was hoping to confuse authorities by making it seem as though she had died from inhaling gas.

Martinez, who the media named El Mata Novias – The Girlfriend Killer – allegedly cut off pieces his alleged victims’ hair as a trophy, and tried to stage both murders to look like suicides

Martinez, who the media named El Mata Novias – The Girlfriend Killer – allegedly cut off pieces of both of his alleged victims’ hair as a trophy.
He also tried to stage both murders to look like suicides.
Mexican media reported that another woman, identified as Adriana Ramos Hernandez, managed to survive his attack and reported the case to the authorities.
After Ms Alanis’ death, an arrest warrant was issued as Interpol Mexico described him as a serial killer.
Martinez was finally captured in Guatemala. Mexican authorities are now fighting to extradite him.
