A major police unit has given its social media followers a case of the giggles after a report about a cannabis raid inadvertently referenced a popular term for marijuana.
The New South Wales Police Facebook page made a post on Sunday night after performing a large raid on a property in the state’s north coast.
‘Police have seized 420 cannabis plants worth almost a million dollars from a home in the state’s north,’ the post reads.
Followers very quickly jumped on the coincidental number, referencing the common ‘420’ nickname for the drug.
‘Haha 420 blaze it,’ one amused person commented.

The large scale seizure occurred just before 6pm on Saturday evening as units converged on the home in Commissioners Creek, reportedly finding 420 cannabis plants and a ‘significant amount of fertilisers and hydroponic equipment’.
The drugs have a street value of around $990,000. No arrests have yet been made.
The attention, however, did not stem from the major raids, but instead its accidental reference to the nickname.
‘Love how it was 420 plants hahahahahahha,’ one person commented.
‘Reckon they deliberately grew 420 plants?’ another social media user joked.

Some, however, were skeptical of the coincidence, instead claiming the number was conveniently rounded off
‘Eh 420 cannabis plants? sounds too convenient,’ another noted

‘This has gotta be a g (sic) up!’ a man replied.

The nickname originates from the early 1970s in California when police used the 420 code-name to reference people smoking marijuana when reporting the crime.
The term was ironically adopted by users to mock authority, and it has now found its way into the common lexicon.
