Police breath-test helicopter pilot in Townsville floods

A helicopter pilot has been subjected to a random breath-test on the side of the road, after landing to deliver supplies to residents trapped by flooding.

The pilot landed near Alambie Lane at Gumlow, Townsville, in Queensland’s north, to deliver much needed supplies this week.

When he landed on the road, police officers decided to breath-test the pilot, as part of their ‘anyone, anytime’ policy.

While the pilot was legitimately tested, Townsville officers assured it was all in good fun, the Townsville Bulletin reported.

Kirwan Police officer-in-charge Jason Brosnan said the pilot was a friend of the police, and took part willingly.

‘It goes to show that because you’re in a helicopter doesn’t mean you can get away without being tested,’ Mr Brosnan said.

The helicopter pilot returned a zero blood alcohol reading, the publication reported.
