Police discover six suspected illegal migrants in the back of a lorry at a Hertfordshire service station after banging was heard from inside

Six suspected illegal immigrants have been found in the back of a truck 100 miles from the Port of Dover.

Police were called to a motorway service station where the lorry had stopped after banging was heard from inside.

Cops then opened up the HGV and three men and three youngsters climbed out. The moment was recorded by a stunned onlooker sitting in the vehicle behind the truck.

After the doors are opened, a young male carrying wearing a grey hoody, blue jeans and brown jackets climbed out from the top of a pile of pallets.

Another male wearing a blue jacket and hat, jeans and black shoes then follows after speaking with a police officer.

Two more then appear and climb out, one wearing a red hoody, grey coat and black jeans and another with a grey cap and hi-vis jacket.

The discovery was made at South Mimms service station on the M25 near Potters Bar, Herts last Thursday after the vehicle was pulled over by police.

The onlooker, who was awoken to the sound of the banging coming from the truck on the inside, said: ‘When they started banging on the lorry, I thought someone was dead, it didn’t look good.

The onlooker, who was awoken to the sound of the banging coming from the truck on the inside, said: ‘When they started banging on the lorry, I thought someone was dead, it didn’t look good

‘I was relieved they weren’t and pleased to see when [they came] out alive.

‘One of the guys was handcuffed by police.

‘I feel very sorry that they have put their life in danger like this but I’m glad they are safe.’

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said: ‘Police were called to a service station in Bignells Corner, Potters Bar, at 20:45hrs on December 19 following reports of people discovered inside a lorry.

‘Officers attended. Three adult males and three juvenile males were found. No one is thought to have been injured.

‘All were detained for immigration offences. The driver of the lorry was not arrested.’
