Police end Hull city centre hotel siege where boys were held hostage

Armed police have ended a city centre siege after a 15-year-old boy held two others inside a hotel room. 

A 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old are said to have been held ‘against their will’ until negotiators arrived at the scene.

Guests at Hotel Campanile in Hull woke to find armed officers waiting outside of their windows during negotiations.

Although no one was injured, the 15-year-old boy has been arrested and all three were taken to Hull Royal Infirmary as a precaution as they were believed to be drunk.

Detective Chief Inspector Stewart Miller said: ‘An investigation has been launched and we’re working to understand the circumstances of the incident.

‘We believe this to have been an isolated incident with no risk to the wider public.’

Earlier, he said the call police had received had been ‘confusing’ and that the force was ‘trying to establish the facts’.

A spokeswoman for Humberside Police said: ‘A 15-year-old boy has been arrested following an incident at a Beverley Road hotel this morning.

‘We were called a shortly after 5.30am, following reports a 17-year-old boy and a 19-year-old man were being held in a room against their will.

‘Trained negotiators and armed officers were deployed to the scene and road closures put in place on Norfolk Street and around the car park entrance to ensure the safety of the public.

‘The two boys and the man were brought safely out of the room at just before 7am and the roads were reopened.

‘No one was injured in the incident. However, all three are believed to be intoxicated and have been taken to Hull Royal Infirmary as a precaution.’

Police are asking anyone who may have any information about the incident to call 101 quoting log number 95 of March 26.
