A mother and son are missing and feared dead at sea with their boat found submerged off the coast of Melbourne.

Felicity Loveday, 83, and her son Adrian Meneveau, 56, set out about 7am on Wednesday from Olivers Hill boat ramp in Frankston.

They told family they were going on a trip for a couple of days on their small boat but never returned.

The pair were reported missing on Saturday and on Sunday morning the boat was found by a fisherman about four nautical miles from Ricketts Point.

No trace of Ms Loveday or Mr Meneveau was found near the boat and they have not been sighted since leaving the boat ramp.

Police are continuing the search and asked for anyone who saw the couple at any point to contact them.
